The Church of God of Prophecy in Trinidad and Tobago started in 1954 and was formally incorporated in 1959. In its more than 65 years in the twin-island state the church has grown to 22 local assemblies and 1500+ members.

Strategic Review with Church Leaders – COGOPTT Multipurpose Centre

Presiding National Overseer Bishop Dr. Maurice A Jones has cast a vision for the national church – ‘To Motivate, Multiply and Maximize our Ministries and Membership by 70.’ At the heart of this vision is to see the Church of God of Prophecy in Trinidad and Tobago increase in positive organisational pride; become a self-supporting nation; develop 40 healthy local churches and comprise a membership of 5,000 persons by 2024 – the national church’s 70 anniversary. In pursuit of Vision 70, the church in Trinidad and Tobago has launched its National Choir and National Steel Orchestra and has completed significant renovation work at the Multi-Purpose Complex, where the new National Office will be housed.

About the National Overseer

Bishop Dr. Maurice Augustus Jones has served as National Overseer for the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago since 1998. He was born on January 30, 1954 in St Vincent & The Grenadines and moved to Trinidad & Tobago in 1966. He joined COGOP in 1969, and began pastoring in 1974. He was licensed as a minister in 1975 and in 1998 was  ordained a bishop.

Bishop Jones obtained a Doctorate In Ministry (D, Min) from Ministry International Institute  of the USA in 2017 after graduating with a Master of Arts in Religion Degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary of Boston, in 2015. He obtained the professional designation of Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) in 1994.

Bishop Jones has served for many years at the local, national, and regional levels. He is a former Chairman of COGOP’s Caribbean Leadership Conference Committee, a past PRO of the Trinidad &Tobago Council of Evangelical Churches a Vice-Chairman of a State Agency, PTA President of Miracle Ministries Pentecostal High School, and an elected Credit Union official.

In 2003, Bishop Jones founded Gospel Bulletin Board; with the tagline -Promoting Positive Media, publishing weekly advertorials in Daily National Newspapers and highlighting outstanding leaders in the Body of Christ.

He is the biological and spiritual son of Pastor Agatha Questelles, father of 3 sons, and grandfather of 3. Following the passing of Maureena, his wife of 42 years, Bishop Jones considers himself tremendously blessed with another wonderful wife – Debra.

Bishop Jones desires to see COGOP T & T make a quantum leap forward using our core values under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Zechariah 4:6 “… Not by might, nor by power; but by my Spirit says the Lord of hosts.”
